| ALCOHOL |
| As you read the following paragraphs concerning alcohol, think seriously about what is God’s will concerning the consumption of alcohol. Do you think God approves of something that is causing so much harm to American society? Do you think God approves of something that plays a significant role in the destruction of the American family?
Alcohol consumption is widely cited as the single greatest cause of traffic fatalities in the United States, and it is responsible for more than 17,000 deaths annually. In addition to traffic fatalities, higher levels of alcohol consumption are associated with crimes such as rape, and other social ills, such as suicide and divorce. States with higher divorce rates have a significant correlation with rates of drinking. It is not surprising, therefore, that the institution of the family has eroded over the past decades. While the rate of alcohol consumption increases in America, families suffer from alcohol-related deaths and/or divorce. Males (ages 25-44 and 45-64) consume (drink) more alcohol than females. This serves as another blow to the stability of the American family. Why do Americans continue to engage in a practice that has so many negative effects on society? People drink alcohol because they enjoy its taste, but equally important is the way it makes them feel. Alcohol inhibits mental faculties, and people enjoy the feeling (euphoria) that accompanies this experience. Inhibiting one’s mental faculties is a means of escapism from the problems of life. Of course, alcohol never solves the problems that the consumers of alcohol wish to escape. Actually, the consumption of alcohol simply adds another set of problems to a person’s life. God is still against the consumption of alcohol. True salvation gives a person the power needed to face and overcome his or her problems. Furthermore, it gives true love, joy, and peace to the souls of men. Therefore, artificial joy and peace through the consumption of alcohol isn’t needed by a true follower of Jesus Christ. If you drink alcohol, pleaseREPENT of your sins now! God will give you power to resist the temptation to drink alcohol. He will give you true love, true joy, and true peace in your heart. He loves you! Salvation gives soberness of mind. Alcohol will inhibit your mental faculties and cause you to do something that you will regret. Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. KJV 1 Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. KJV |
