Shacking is a modern-day expression for two people who live together, but they are not married to one another. Years ago, shacking was considered to be a reproach. Although this living arrangement has become very popular, it is still a reproach in God’s sight. The only living arrangement that is “honorable” in God’s sight is MARRIAGE. Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. KJV The following points should be considered concerning shacking:

* Shacking implicitly involves fornication (pre-marital sex). (See “Fornication” link)
* In shacking, the bed is “defiled.”
* Shacking is used as a means to avoid a lifetime commitment, at least during a period of time, to another person.
* Disagreements tend to be much more difficult to solve since there are no binding commitments in the relationship. If the couple has adopted some “binding commitments,” these commitments do not carry the weight of a vow to the Almighty God, and a vow to one another.
* Adults are responsible for serving as godly examples to the younger generation. Those who participate in shacking serve as examples of ungodly acts to the younger generation.
* The virtues of decency and purity are totally abandoned through shacking. Traditionally, the bride wore a white gown to represent her purity. This virtue has been obliterated by fornication and shacking.
* As the popularity of shacking increases, there will be more people who have participated in several shacking arrangements over a period of time. This is whoredom.

Ezekiel 6:9 And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations. KJV

* Typically, the woman is more inclined to want to “marry” than the man, and the woman ends up with a broken heart because of the man’s reluctance to make a lifetime commitment.

* God is opposed to a living arrangement that involves sin.

Marriage is still “honorable” and pre-marital relationships can and should be
conducted in an “honorable” manner as well. Paul writes, “Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.” (I Corinthians 7:1-2) The world’s method of dating would shun any counsel not to touch, but this is God’s standard for his people. Why? This is God’s standard because touching simply leads to more aggressive touching and finally to sin (i.e. fornication). What begins with holding hands, typically leads to kissing, hugging, and finally sexual intercourse. The Bible states, “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.” (Galatians 5:9) The devil works to begin with a little fleshly affection because he knows that it will eventually lead to more.

If you are involved in a shacking relationship, will you REPENT today and terminate that sinful living arrangement? Will you REPENT of fornication today? Will you REPENT of exposing your body to the opposite sex before marriage? Will you REPENT of the ungodly examples that you have set for the young people who are watching you? God loves you!
